YTK/IFHP Urban Planning and Design Summer School

YTK Land Use Planning and Urban Studies Group at the Aalto University is hosting the eighteenth edition of the YTK/IFHP Summer School in Finland. YTK started this programme in 1995 under the auspices of The The International Federation of Housing and Planning (IFHP, founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1913). The course is organised in co-operation with the cities of Helsinki, Jyväskylä and Turku. The Director of the Summer School is Professor Panu Lehtovuori from Tampere University of Technology.

The first days of the Summer School are spent in the Helsinki region. This part of the course consists of lectures on Finnish planning system, architecture and culture and on the theme of the course. There will also be a full-day presentation on the City of Helsinki, including an excursion to recent planning projects.

In the second part of the Summer School the participants will be divided into two groups and travel to the cities of Turku and Jyväskylä where project planning and workshops will take place. The field work includes analysing the existing conditions of planning areas and suggesting innovative and realistic improvements to the environments. Work will be tutored by experienced planners and other experts of Urban Studies and final proposals will be presented to decision-makers, general public and the press.

This announcement is an invitation for applying to the YTK/IFHP Urban Planning and Design Summer School 2013 in Finland. It is addressed to students at all levels of studies and young professionals. We are looking forward to receiving applications from architects, urban planners, sociologists, geographers and others involved in spatial planning.
